Mat 18:2-3, Then Jesus called a little child to Him, set him in the midst of them, and said, "Assuredly, I say to you, unless you are converted and become as little children, you will by no means enter the kingdom of heaven."

Jesus told them that unless they are converted and become as little children, they cannot enter the kingdom of heaven. What are the qualities of a child?

The first quality of a child is the innocence of his heart. Whatever you feed a child, he accepts everything because he does not have the ability to understand right or wrong. And very often he reflects the same qualities of his parents what he learned from his parents. Jesus said to get converted and become as little children so that they could accept what God really wanted to feed them so that they could reflect His character through their lives.

In the old times when kings and queens ruled India, they practiced some evil ways. I read stories that in order to preserve their kingdom or to capture kings of other territories, the kings used to make "vish kanya" which literally means "poison girl". These girls were trained in the art of seduction and were full of poison. For that purpose they would select very beautiful girls and from within a few days after their birth they would feed her with poison everyday in very little quantity. Then they would increase the quantity of poison gradually. When the girl reaches the age of 16-18, if she kisses someone he would die because of the poison in her lips. The little amount of poison that was introduced in her body from her childhood shows result when she is an adult. What you feed your children he/she will show the same qualities. That is the reason why it is very important to become a child of God as it is written in John 1:12, "But as many as received Him, to them He gave the right to become children of God, to those who believe in His name" and feed in the word of God so that our lives could reflect the life of Jesus.

A child is completely dependent on his parents for all his basic needs. If you are a child of God, you have to completely trust in God for all your needs whether it is physical or spiritual. He will provide for you, He will guide you and lead you in the right direction.

A child cannot think like a mature person who can take their own decisions independently. Very often people say, “oh, he is a child and not mature enough and that's why he is doing these types of things. Maturity brings independence in ones life but in the spiritual sense it could be alienation from trusting God. God wants us to trust in Him completely and ask for guidance in every step.

Today you might have been fed by the world and the devil and it is possible that you may be an instrument in the hands of the devil. But if you humble yourself, repent from your sins and give your life to Jesus, He will make you His child and will give you a new life. He will give you eternal life.

The Spirit of Pharisees

By Sherly Isaac

Mat 23:3-7, "Therefore whatever they tell you to observe, that observe and do, but do not do according to their works; for they say, and do not do. For they bind heavy burdens, hard to bear, and lay them on men's shoulders; but they themselves will not move them with one of their fingers. But all their works they do to be seen by men. They make their phylacteries broad and enlarge the borders of their garments. They love the best places at feasts, the best seats in the synagogues, greetings in the marketplaces, and to be called by men, 'Rabbi, Rabbi.'"

Jesus warned the people and His disciples in the 23rd chapter of Matthew declaring that the Pharisees and Scribes were hypocrites. What was the reason? The reason was very simple, their works were bad. They put heavy burdens on men's shoulders that was hard to bear. The things which they imposed on others, they themselves were not ready to do it. I met some people online who have the same arguments, "why a preacher needs to live a luxurious life and go by plane? Why a preacher should drive costly cars etc.?" But the most amazing thing is that the same people who accuse others are themselves sitting in good houses, driving air conditioned cars and SUV's. They preach for others but are not ready to give up their luxurious items, not ready to go and live in slums and walk on their foot. Pharisees did the same thing. You can see the same Pharisee spirit lurking in and out of our churches.

Pharisees loved position and status. They did show offs to become big. They had no compassion for others. Mark 3rd chapter first few verses talk about an incident which grieved Jesus. The incident is like that, once Jesus entered the synagogue and there was a man who had a withered hand. The Pharisees watched Him closely, whether He would heal him on the Sabbath, so that they might accuse Him. Jesus said to the man who had the withered hand, "Step forward." Further we read in Mark 3:4 Then He said to them, "Is it lawful on the Sabbath to do good or to do evil, to save life or to kill?" But they kept silent."

Jesus looked around at them with anger and being grieved by the hardness of their hearts He said to the man, "Stretch out your hand." And he stretched it out, and his hand was restored as whole as the other. Then the Pharisees went out and immediately plotted with the Herodians against Him, how they might destroy Him. (Mark 3:5-6)"

You can see the evilness of the Pharisees, how they wished that the sick person may continue in his sickness and that Jesus should not heal him on the Sabbath. When Jesus healed him, they did not like it either and they plotted to kill Him. They were hard hearted people without any compassion and it did not please Jesus. That is the reason why Jesus warned the people that they must be very careful of these religious leaders.

After all, what was the reason for their anger towards Jesus? One reason was Envy. When Jesus was taken before Pilate he knew that priests had handed Jesus over because of envy. We read in Mark 15:9-10, 'But Pilate answered them, saying, "Do you want me to release to you the King of the Jews?" For he knew that the chief priests had handed Him over because of envy.'

The second reason was that they were afraid to lose their position and their place. John 11:47-48 says, "Then the chief priests and the Pharisees gathered a council and said, "What shall we do? For this Man works many signs. If we let Him alone like this, everyone will believe in Him, and the Romans will come and take away both our place and nation."

Because of their selfishness and because of their envy and ungodly behavior they could not tolerate the creator Himself and crucified Him. They thought that with His death everything will be over and they could rule freely. They thought that their position will be safe but they were greatly mistaken. They forgot that God loves righteous people and hates wicked people. Instead of submitting themselves to the will of God they were trying to hold on to their positions.

Today also there are many who have nothing to do with the will of God. They live their lives as they wanted but today God wants you to submit yourself before Him. He will take away your stony heart and will give you a heart of flesh. He will fill you with His divine love and compassion for others so that you could shed tears for them and pray for them. So that you could pray for them and see them healed, blessed and joyous.
