Bible tells us that a merry heart is essential for a happy life. Sorrows in our lives bring brokenness in our spirit and in our life. We read in Proverbs 15:13, “A merry heart makes a cheerful countenance, But by sorrow of the heart the spirit is broken.”
And also in Proverbs 17:22, “A merry heart does good, like medicine, But a broken spirit dries the bones.”
When God created Adam and Eve they were happy and blessed. There was no sorrow, no heartbreaks, no pain, no toil but only joy in the presence of God. But one day they sinned against God by disobeying Him. This brought not only separation from God but also a big heartbreak in their lives. Since then suffering because of sin became a part of our daily life. Sin takes away our joy. Sin is terrible and it takes away our happiness and peace. Sin was the reason why Adam and Eve fell. Sin has been the reason for the downfall of the biggest names in today’s world. Sin could bring you down from the highest mountain to the deepest valley and ultimately could lead you to hell fire. Because, Bible tells us that the wages of sin is death. Yes, sin brings death, destruction and tragedies in our lives.
But I have good news for you that there is a way out from our sorrows and from sins. There is a way out to avoid hell fire. Jesus came in this world for the very purpose. He shed His pure and blameless blood on the cross so that our sins could be forgiven and we could be reunited with God. Not only that but God wants to restore our lives just as it was before the fall of mankind, before the sin of Adam and Eve.
When we come at the feet of Jesus, He not only forgives and forgets all our sins but also restores our lives. He replaces our broken heart with a merry heart. He removes sin and gives us eternal life.
Today Jesus is ready to fill you with great peace and great joy. Would you come to Him and would you give your life to Him?
Knowing God as Our Own Father
By Sherly Isaac
Probably it may not surprise some who are born in a Christian home about knowing God as our own Father but surprisingly enough some of the major world religions like Islam deny the fact that we can know God as our own Father.
Bible constantly identifies God as a loving Father. All the Bible prophets called God as their Father. It was not a figure of speech but literally they called God as Father. Not only that but Jesus Himself called God as His father. When once the disciples asked Jesus, how to pray? Jesus started the model prayer with these words, “Our father in heaven”.
In the Old Testament we read that Moses spoke about God as Father in Deuteronomy 32:6 Do you thus deal with the LORD, O foolish and unwise people? Is He not your Father, who bought you? Has He not made you and established you?
Also in Deuteronomy 32:17-19, “They sacrificed to demons, not to God, To gods they did not know, To new gods, new arrivals That your fathers did not fear. Of the Rock who begot you, you are unmindful, And have forgotten the God who fathered you. And when the LORD saw it, He spurned them, Because of the provocation of His sons and His daughters.
Samuel spoke about God as Father in 2 Samuel 7:13-14, "He shall build a house for My name, and I will establish the throne of his kingdom forever. I will be his Father, and he shall be My son. If he commits iniquity, I will chasten him with the rod of men and with the blows of the sons of men."
David spoke about God as Father Psalms 68:4-5, “Sing to God, sing praises to His name; Extol Him who rides on the clouds, By His name YAH, And rejoice before Him. A father of the fatherless, a defender of widows, Is God in His holy habitation.”
Isaiah spoke about God as Father. Isaiah 63:16, “Doubtless You are our Father, Though Abraham was ignorant of us, And Israel does not acknowledge us. You, O LORD, are our Father; Our Redeemer from Everlasting is Your name.”
Isaiah 64:8, “But now, O LORD, You are our Father; We are the clay, and You our potter; And all we are the work of Your hand."
Jeremiah speaks about God as Father Jeremiah 3:4, “Will you not from this time cry to Me, 'My father, You are the guide of my youth?”
Malachi speaks about God as Father: Malachi 1:6 "A son honors his father, And a servant his master. If then I am the Father, Where is My honor? And if I am a Master, Where is My reverence? Says the LORD of hosts To you priests who despise My name. Yet you say, 'In what way have we despised Your name?'
So we can see that all the above prophets and people knew God as their Father. In some point of their lives they acknowledged God as their Father. Bible tells us that we are separated from God because of sin and our relationship is broken because of sin. But Jesus came in this world to save us from our sins. He shed His precious blood on the cross so that our sins could be forgiven.
Bible tells us in John 1:10-13, “He was in the world, and the world was made through Him, and the world did not know Him. He came to His own, and His own did not receive Him. But as many as received Him, to them He gave the right to become children of God, to those who believe in His name: who were born, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God."
My dear friend, you too can become a child of God. It is very simple to become a child of God. We need to repent of our sins and accept Jesus as our Lord and Savior. As soon as we do it, God gives us right to become children of God. When you are born in the family of God, when you are a child of God, you are entitled to have all what belongs to God. What a privilege to know God as our Father.
If you want to become a child of God, you can pray this prayer with me: Lord Jesus I am a sinner, please forgive and forget all my sins. Wash me with your precious blood. Today I accept you as my Lord and Savior. Please give me right to become a child of God. Thank you Jesus for forgiving my sins and making me a child of God. I give you all the glory and honor. In Jesus name I pray, Amen.
