In John 8:34 we read that, Jesus answered them, "Most assuredly, I say to you, whoever commits sin is a slave of sin.

When we think about slavery, a slave does not have any authority, any voice in the family. They are brought by their master to serve him how their master wants. They do not have any kind of freedom except to do what their master wants. Once I read about some stories of slaves who became free when Abraham Lincoln was president of USA. The slaves had never got more than two meals a day all the time. If they wanted any thing at night they had to steal. They used to steal potatoes for supper or cake or something special. But if their master would find out their mischievous behavior he would beat them with whips and made their lives more miserable. If they did a little bit of mistake while working the master would beat them with whip until he gets tired. While I was reading, at times, I thought what a miserable life they had and where there no police who could have helped them? That was the life of slaves.

Jesus compared sinners as slaves of sin and that they have no voice, no authority but are bound by sin. They do what their master wants them to do yet at the end sure death awaits them. Bottom line is that slaves do not have a future. In today's modern day kidnappings and beheadings depict a clear picture of slave and master relationship.

Many years ago our forefathers sinned against God and they lost their freedom in the hands of the devil. Since then we human beings are in misery and pain. We are bound by various sins and hardships. Not only that but sin brought death in this world. But I have good news that Jesus came to make us free. He went to the cross; shed His precious holy blood so that we could get forgiveness of our sins. By getting forgiveness of our sins we could also get eternal life.

If we just come to Jesus, He is ready to forgive and forget our sins. He is ready to bring us out of our bondages and addictions. He is ready to embrace us, bless us and wipe away our tears from our eyes. Would you come to Jesus today? Would you take that freedom which Jesus wants to give you?

The God who comes searching for us! Part 2

By Sherly Isaac

We read a story in Luke 7:11-17. Once Jesus went to a city called Nain; and many of His disciples went with Him and a large crowd. As they journeyed towards Nain and reached near the gate of the city they saw a dead man was being carried out. He was the only son of his mother; and she was a widow. And a large crowd from the city was with her. You can imagine how difficult it would have been for that mother to see her only son die. Probably he was the only bread winner in the family and now he is gone. It was not the first death in her family but she saw the death of her husband as well. Her heart was broken in million pieces, she might have cried and asked, how long Lord I have to shed tears like this.... how many times I have to see death!

I remember back in India one of my cousins came to live with us. While she lived in our home, my mom got very sick. Next day she sat in a chair and she felt very restless. We started to pray for her. At that moment she almost passed out. Her eyes were open but they seemed as if of stones. We continued to pray for her and after a few moments she gained consciousness. Later my cousin who had lost her parents while she was just 10-11 years old and her grand parents when she was a teenager, said that she prayed, Lord how many deaths I have to see? Not any more... And sure enough my mom got healed.

The same thoughts might have gone through the mind of that widow mother of the young man who's lifeless body was being carried out of the city for burial. But Jesus came searching for that lone mother in her dire need. The God who sees tears and the deepest thoughts of our hearts, He did not allow that mother to shed more tears. He did not allow that mother to see her only son to be buried. No, but He came at the right time. When the Lord saw her, He had compassion on her and said to her, "Do not weep."

My dear friend, are you weeping today? Have you lost your loved ones? Look to Jesus, He is ready to wipe away your tears just as He did for the widow of Nain.

Then Jesus came and touched the open coffin, and those who carried him stood still. And He said, "Young man, I say to you, arise." So he who was dead sat up and began to speak. And He presented him to his mother. What a joyous moment for a mother who lost all her hopes but now seeing her dead son alive. She might have laughed, she might have danced, she might have fallen at the feet of Jesus and thanked for what He did for her.

The same God who wiped away the tears of the widow of Nain can do the same for you. If you just come to Him and give your life for Him. This life is temporary and will soon end but there is eternal life. Jesus wants to give us eternal life so that we may never die but live in peace and joy with Him forever. Would you give your life to Jesus today?
