In the New Testament we read about the prayer life of Jesus. He would often withdraw Himself from the crowd and would go to pray. At times he would spend the whole night in prayer. He would often wake up early in the morning and would pray in a solitary place as we read in Mark 1:35, "Now in the morning, having risen a long while before daylight, He went out and departed to a solitary place; and there He prayed." Then we read in Luke 5:16, "So He Himself often withdrew into the wilderness and prayed." Also in Luke 6:12, "Now it came to pass in those days that He went out to the mountain to pray, and continued all night in prayer to God." And in Matthew 14:23, "And when He had sent the multitudes away, He went up on the mountain by Himself to pray. Now when evening came, He was alone there."

Back in India one of the elders in our Church used to say that, "It is difficult to pray for a few minutes and nobody can pray for more than five minutes." But we see Jesus' life that it was a prayerful life.

Prayer is a way to communicate with the Father and Jesus spent long time in prayer and had good communication with the Father. Often people say that communication is the key to a good relationship. Same is the case with our spiritual life. Jesus' prayerful life inspires us that we should be in continuous communication with the heavenly Father very often and then only can we have good relationship with God and then only can we know the perfect will and plans of God for our life.

When we read the connected surrounding verses when Jesus prayed, we can find that before He preached sermons, before He cast out demons, before He chose His disciples or before He did something important, He spent great deal of His time in prayer. In the morning He woke up early and went to pray and then we read in Mark 1:39, "And He was preaching in their synagogues throughout all Galilee, and casting out demons."

And in Luke 6:12-13, "Now it came to pass in those days that He went out to the mountain to pray, and continued all night in prayer to God. And when it was day, He called His disciples to Himself; and from them He chose twelve whom He also named apostles:"

Today we need to examine ourselves; do we spend whole night in prayer before an important event? Do we pray waking up early before we preach a sermon? Look at the life of Jesus, He spent most of His time in prayer and that is the reason why, He could do His ministry effectively. Mighty and awesome miracles happened, sick people got healed, and deliverance came in the lives of people. Not only that, but there were times when Jesus could defeat the plots of the Pharisees and Priests by His wise answers. They could not catch Him on any point or could find any fault in Him. The reason was simple that Jesus spent time with heavenly Father. If we do the same, we can defeat our enemies, we can see mighty things.

Today, take a decision that you will separate a time for Jesus and try to have communication with Him.

How to get forgiveness of our sins? Part 2

By Sherly Isaac

Sometimes people think that if they live a good life they need not to get forgiveness of their sins. Some people think that if they do good works all their sins will get canceled. But it is not true.

Once I read a story. In a certain place a young man lived. One day he killed someone. When the police started searching for him, he ran away from that place. He went to a far away place then he changed his name, identity and look. He worked very hard and started a business. He became very successful, rich and famous. Everybody respected him because of his kindness and generosity. He became hope for the hopeless and was a messiah for the poor. But often he would feel very guilty of the murder he committed years back. He would weep bitterly and think, why did I do that?

Years passed by but he could not shake off the guilt from his heart. One day he could not bear the pain of his guilt. So he went to the police station weeping. When the police officer saw this gentleman, he stood up in respect to him. But the rich man explained his sin of murder and begged to handcuff him and put him in prison.

This man was successful in his life, his past life was forgotten by all but he could not forgive himself. His guilt took over his life. When we sin, sin does not go away automatically or it does not erase by itself. But we need a savior who could save us from our sins. There is no other way to get forgiveness of our sins except through the blood of Jesus. Bible says in Acts 4:12, "Nor is there salvation in any other, for there is no other name under heaven given among men by which we must be saved."

Jesus came for the very purpose to take away our sins, our shame, our guilt and our punishment of hell on Himself. He died on behalf of us so that we could come out of our sin and live a holy life, more than that we could have eternal life. If you confess your sins to Jesus, He is ready to forgive and forget all your sins. He is ready to give you a new life. He is ready to wipe out all the sins you have ever committed. Would you give your life to Jesus, today?
