The month of January 2014 was the month when I heard of the news of so many deaths including two of them who were our relatives. Some were too young to have died and some of the stories were so tragic; that I could not shake off the memory of which out of my mind. I kept asking God, why should they die at such an young age?
But the reality is that every person will have to die and for every person there is a time appointed. We may never know when and where our life will end. But the question is whether we are ready to meet our creator at any moment? I remember that once a person asked a question in the Facebook that, "If you die today, will you go to heaven?" Most of them had no definite answer. Some said, "could be", some said, "not sure" and some said, "we may never know while we are in this world...". Only a few said that they were sure about going to heaven, if they died today.
Let us look in the Bible how we can be prepared to go to heaven. When Jesus was on the cross there were two thieves who were crucified with Him. And we read a very interesting thing there. Both of them had committed theft or robbery and they received punishment for their wrong doings. But still they were mocking Jesus as we read in Matthew 27:41-44, "Likewise the chief priests also, mocking with the scribes and elders, said, He saved others; Himself He cannot save. If He is the King of Israel, let Him now come down from the cross, and we will believe Him. He trusted in God; let Him deliver Him now if He will have Him; for He said, 'I am the Son of God. Even the robbers who were crucified with Him reviled Him with the same thing."
Further we read in Luke 23:39-43 that, 'Then one of the criminals who were hanged blasphemed Him, saying, "If You are the Christ, save Yourself and us. But the other, answering, rebuked him, saying, "Do you not even fear God, seeing you are under the same condemnation? And we indeed justly, for we receive the due reward of our deeds; but this Man has done nothing wrong." Then he said to Jesus, "Lord, remember me when You come into Your kingdom." And Jesus said to him, "Assuredly, I say to you, today you will be with Me in Paradise."
You can see what a dramatic change it was. The robber who was destined to hell suddenly found his way to heaven. Every one may be wondering how? A simple request to Jesus, "Lord, remember me when You come into Your kingdom." Right then and there, his sins were forgiven by the creator of the universe. Right then and there, he found the salvation of his soul. Right then and there he was redeemed of his sins and was given an entry to paradise. How did it happen? Simply by confessing his sins to Jesus and asking Jesus for help it became possible for him to go to heaven.
That's how simple it is for the forgiveness of our sins. But it is a tragedy that our religious leaders have made it complicated. That is the reason why Jesus said in Luke 11:52, "Woe to you lawyers! For you have taken away the key of knowledge. You did not enter in yourselves, and those who were entering in you hindered".
Let us forget for a moment all the theologies, traditions, customs, rituals and those long church services and just come at the feet of Jesus and ask for His help. Just as the robber did, who begged for the mercy of Jesus and found it. Would you come to Jesus today?
How to get forgiveness of our sins? Part 1
By Sherly Isaac
Probably this is the single question "How to get forgiveness of our sins?", which is the driving force behind the formation of different religions and rituals. I come from India, the land which is well known for saints. You can see so many people who have given up their every thing and clad in saffron dress apparently in search of salvation (Moksh). They go around on 4 main pilgrimages of India which is situated in four corners of India. They deliberately torture their own bodies just to attain salvation of their souls and to have a place in heaven.
But I have Good News for you. About 2000 years ago, someone have already gone through all the sufferings, pain, torture and even death on behalf of you and me so that we could get forgiveness of our sins. He made the ultimate sacrifice on the cruel cross, just to give us eternal life. He is none other than Jesus, who is the creator of the universe. He could not see us dying and going to hell so He came down and gave Himself as a sacrifice for us. Now we have nothing to do except that we come at His feet and receive the forgiveness of our sins.
Suppose you are reading newspaper sitting near a fireplace. And your son is playing nearby. Suddenly you hear the screams of your son, Daddy... Daddy... help me to get out of this fire. Do you think that you will just sit and tell your son, "Son work hard, try more to come out of the fire?" Would you? No, I am sure, as soon as you hear the screams of your child, you will jump out of your chair and try to save your child who is in fire. You will not even think about your own life but will risk it for your child.
That was what Jesus did by coming to this world and going to the cruel cross. He could not see us dying in sin and He could not see us going to hell so He came to save us from hell fire. Today we can get forgiveness of our sins by coming at the feet of Jesus and by repenting of our sins. It is a simple cry of help that makes Him to move.
If you want that your sins may be forgiven, please pray this prayer with me: Lord Jesus, I am a sinner. I know that you have taken all my sins on the cruel cross and died on behalf of me. Please forgive and forget all my sins. Today, I accept you as my Lord and Savior. Thank you Jesus for forgiving my sins and giving me eternal life. I give you all the glory to you. I pray this prayer in Jesus name, Amen!
